THIS MONTH: 25th anniversary of the raising of The London Eye

The London Eye is an iconic part of the London skyline and one of the UK’s top tourist attractions.  It now seems like this huge wheel structure has always been there and is an internationally recognised symbol for London, although is a youngster in comparison to the ancient, historical London buildings around it with its constructing starting only 25 years ago. The end of 2024 in fact marks 25 years since it was formally opened in 1999 as a symbolic celebration of the forthcoming millennium, then known as the Millenium Wheel. The London Eye can be found on London’s Southbank, near the London Dungeons, in Jubilee Gardens opposite Big Ben at Westminster. Standing at an amazing 135 meters high, it offers passengers an unparalleled 360-degree slow moving view of the city below. From its capsules, visitors can experience famous sights of London: Westminster Abbey, The Shard, London Bridge, the curve of the Thames River and much more. Anyone can visit as it is open all year round and visitors can buy tickets on the day or pre-book.
