Breakdancing is one of the four new sports that will be introduced to the Olympics this summer in Paris. Breaking made its Olympic debut at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018. Following its outstanding success, breaking has been chosen to feature on the Paris 2024 Olympic sports programme as a new sport, along with surfing, skateboarding and sport climbing. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) wanted to attract younger viewers and include new sports, which is why they chose to add breaking to the Olympics. Breaking is a new and welcoming sport that comes from urban culture and local communities. It appeals to a group of people who might not normally be interested in Olympic sports. Breaking, which is also called breakdancing, started in the Bronx borough of New York City in the 1970s, when dancers began trying to outdo one another in what became known as battles.
