Buckingham Palace has been the British monarchs’ official London home since 1837. Queen Victoria was the first sovereign to take up residence there. She moved in on 13 July 1837, just three weeks after her accession. Buckingham Palace is an iconic sight not to be missed when visiting London. It was originally built as Buckingham House in 1703 as a large townhouse for Duke Buckingham.
