The Museum of Ethnography’s distinctive and magnificent new structure was inaugurated just a few months ago and has since gained popularity among both tourists and Budapest residents. One of the world’s most cutting-edge ethnographic museums, its unusually formed structure fits seamlessly into the lush green space of City Park. Eye-catching shape and façade The new building has been constructed at the entrance to the City Park. It is divided into two wings each of which forms a curve with a diameter of one kilometre. The two wings of the building support a roof garden filled with a variety of plants and shrubs. The more than seven-thousand-square-metre roof garden rises to the height of the crowns of the surrounding trees offering a stunning view from its highest point. Over 3,000 cubic meters of topsoil that had been specially treated with nutrients were put on the hillsides of the building to create the roof garden. A total of 1,500 flowering and bulbous perennials, seven deciduous shrubs, over 100 evergreens, and 700 types of ornamental grass were planted.
