Palermo holds a special place in my heart, as I have spent a lot of time here recently, and I am always happy to return, even for a day or two. I’ll give you a brief introduction to the place, just in case you fancy a long weekend in Sicily!

From ancient palaces to lively street markets, there is no shortage of sights to explore in this enchanting city, so let’s see 10 sights you shouldn’t miss when in Palermo.

One of the most iconic landmarks is the Palazzo dei Normanni, also known as the Norman Palace. This impressive structure served as the seat of Sicilian power for centuries and is a testament to the island’s rich history. Visitors can explore its grand halls, adorned with stunning mosaics and intricate decorations, and learn about the various rulers who left their mark on this historic palace.

Adjacent to the Palazzo dei Normanni stands the magnificent Cattedrale di Palermo, or Palermo Cathedral. This stunning cathedral is a masterpiece of Norman architecture, with its imposing facade and towering bell towers. Inside, visitors can admire the beautiful artwork and mosaics, including the famous Royal Tombs and the Treasury.

Connected to the cathedral is the Cappella Palatina, or Palatine Chapel, a true gem of medieval art and architecture.
